Workshop: Many Views, One Future

Exploring Biotechnology Together

What do you think when you hear the word 'biotechnology'? Which of its many facets draws your attention? Are you fascinated by the science behind it? Its potential for a healthy, sustainable future? Are you worried that it’s trying to substitute natural with unnatural things? Are you interested in the philosophical aspects? Do you see its commercial potential? Are you worried about potential risks that we cannot yet foresee?

In this workshop we invite you to share your perspective, engage with the perspective of others, and then direct your attention to the aspects that you have in common with participants of different disciplinary or professional backgrounds. In this way, we can explore common goals as a basis for inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration.

The aim of the session is to reflect on biotechnology in its broadest sense, including its medical, agri-food, industrial and environmental applications, and to explore the current state of inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration in the field.

The workshop will be led by Patricia Osseweijer, Emeritus professor at Delft University of Technology, and Melanie Rietveld, PhD candidate at Maastricht University.
