Luc Sels

President of the Executive Board at Leiden University and Professor of Strategic HRM and the Future of Work

As President of the Executive Board at Leiden University, Luc Sels is responsible for the university’s strategic direction and overall management. He is also a professor of Strategic HRM and the Future of Work.

From 2017 to 2025, Luc Sels served as Rector of KU Leuven. He brings a rich academic background and extensive administrative experience to his current role. After obtaining his PhD in social sciences in 1995, he became a professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at KU Leuven in 2004, where he served as Dean for nine years. He also held part-time positions at the Universities of Bern and Rochester.

In Flanders, he has held various advisory and administrative roles, including at the High Council for Employment and as director of the Steunpunt Werk.
