Çankaya (1982) completed his PhD on diversity within the police force and conducted research into ethnic profiling. He has written essays on identity and exclusion for De Correspondent. His book My Countless Identities was awarded the Jan Hanlo Essay Prize (Groot category), the Sociologische Bril Prize and the E. du Perron Prize.
He also wrote the introduction to the Dutch edition of Edward Said’s Orientalism and is a lecturer at VU Amsterdam. He is currently a columnist for De Volkskrant.
His book Galmende geschiedenissen (Echoing Histories) was recently published; it is a story about his social rise and the public frenzy surrounding the genocide of the Palestinian people.
